From an original Recipe Book compiled by Pairc Community Association in the late 70's and reprinted by Pairc Historical Society. The book has 44 pages of recipes many using local produce and a few of the recipes like Ceann Cropaig are in Gaelic.

A comprehensive and thoroughly researched history of Eishken Estate written by David S D Jones. The publication covers periods from the early 1600's up to 1863 when the estate was a deer forest and sheep farm through to the present ownership. Chapters include The Park Shootings from 1863 to 1883,The Denys Years from 1883 to 1885, The Park Deer Forest 1886 to 1924, The Eishken Estate from 1924 to 1977 and a further chapter on the period from 1977 to 2009. The booklet includes many previously unpublished photographs. 56 pp.

Dedicated to the memory of all Lewismen who gave their lives in the Great War 1914-18. The book is based on the pocket diaries kept by Angus Macmillan from August 1915 to March 1919 and from three lectures given in 1935. Angus was born in the village of Lemreway in 1886. He ran away to joinn the army at the age of eighteen. Contemporaries spoke of him as 'the bravest man they had ever served with'

The first memorial was a cairn of local stone, which was situated on the opposite side of the road from where the restored memorial now stands. The original memorial built around 1922 included a plaque listing those who were killed in WWI from the Kershader School District. Contains many details on those who fought for their country and never returned.

Steimreway stands today like a green oasis between the moor and the sea. Its ruined buildings, and associated remains are reminders of its former inhabitants and the often hard lives they led, both prior to the land clearance of the 1850s , and then again for a period of some 20 years following the land raids and resellement in the 1920s. At one time over 40 boats were engaged in hand-line fishing out of Marvig. The village is set in a sheltered bay and close to the open seas of the Minch. When the Park land clearances took place, some of those who were evicted settled in Marvig dividing the village into 21 holdings. This booklet includes details on the many characters who lived in Marvig as well as comprehensive information on the old village shops, fishing boats and their owners, tradesmen and Planasker School.

History of Lemreway

Early records of Lemreway are sparse. The first official reference appears to be in the Seaforth Mackenzie records estate records of 1776. The census records for 1841, 1851 and 1861 are fortuitously timed to provide a graphic insight into the most dramatic decades in Lemreway's history as the settlement was first cleared in 1834 and then repopulted from 1857. The booklet, updated in 2007, contains comprehensive information on many aspects of the history of the village.

Habost is said to be one of the oldest settlements in Pairc. It is difficult to trace the names of all the Tacksmen that occupied Habost, but we know that in 1718 and 1726 Alex Mackenzie held the tenancy of the Tack. We also know that Angus Smith who was born in 1736 entered the Tack of Habost and Cleitir. This booklet documents much of the known history of the twonship.

Gravir was the most populated village in Pairc. An early description of Garyvard mentions ' A amall village of straw thatched huts, built parlty of stone and in pretty good repair, to which there is attached a considerable portion of arable land, but the inhabitants derive their chief support from fishing, the herring fishing is their great harvest. This booklet documets the known history of Garyvard and caversta including village shops, landmarks, the Mission house and the religious revival of 1938.

Eilean Chaluim Chille - St Colm's Isle

This is the first publication dedicated to Eilean Chaluim Chille, a fertile tidal island near the mouth of Loch Erisort and the location of one of the very earliest Christian sites in Lewis, the church and related developments dedicated to St. Columba (also known as St Columb or St Colm). There are tantalising references in local folklore or documents to a monastary and orchard associated with the island.

Cromore is situated on the peninsula between Loch Cromore and Loch Erisort. Land raiders could be stopped at the narrow neck of land where the bridge now fords Loch Cromore and the waters of Loch Erisort that flow down the south side of Crobeag. From an historical point of view the two most important sites are Eilean Chaluim Chille and Dun Cromore both of which have ruins which identify the sites, now protected by Historic Scotland as Ancient Monuments.
